I was looking for some Halloween inspiration and came across these cute ghost lights from Pottery Barn.

Here is my knock-off version! Aren't they cute?
The hardest part of this project was figuring out what to use for the head. I searched online and found these clear plastic ornaments that were perfect.
I drilled a 3/8" hole in the bottom of each ornament. They serparate, so I drilled the hole in the middle of the two pieces.
Since most of the ghosts I know are white *wink*wink*, I decided to go with off-white burlap rather than the brown Pottery Barn used. I cut it into 11" squares and stacked them on top of each other.
I took one square and wrapped it around the ornament and drew eyes with a marker.
Then, I placed the square back on the pile and used the back of a paintbrush to paint over the marker.
Some of the paint should go through to square underneath, which is perfect because it marks where the eyes go on the next square. Repeat until all the eyes are painted.

I found a strand of lights (I painted the wires cream because I only had green) and poked a light through the center of the burlap. I wiggled it around to make the hole bigger and stuck the light through to the back.
I placed the light in half the ornament,
added the other half,
and tied a piece of twine around the neck.
And now I have some really cute lights for Halloween.
They're just as cute when they're not lit up.

Love these. But my only worry: isn't the plastic getting too warm? As in: is this safe to use for a longer period?

I LOVE this idea and want to do it too! How long was your string of lights, or maybe a better question is--how many ornaments did you get to do this? Thanks for your help!
I just made the cutest lights, thanks to your inspiration! I bought heavy beige burlap from Joann's. I used ping pong balls (8 for $1.00 from Dollar Store) for the heads. I punched a hole with a screw, then poked in progressively larger screwdrivers until the proper sized hole was created. I bought LED battery operated lights, a white string of 30, and had ghosts hanging every fourth bulb. The LED lights were so bright, that I painted the non-ghost lights with orange acrylic paint, just to tone the brightness down. I like the idea of the battery lights, as they stay cool and I do not have to worry about a fire! The lights were $4.99 from a local variety store.
This is the best I am warning my husband, a very patient man, we are doing this project this weekend.
Fun! Has anyone tried this project using globe string lights? I wonder if that would help skip the drilling step?
Yours are much cuter than the pottery barn ones!!!
What a brilliant idea and not too difficult to make. Certainly going to pin these to make for next year. Don't think I'll have time for this Halloween but will try! My little one will love them.
